Solapur Water Service (SWS) is an independent wing under HCC serving to provide safe drinking water to the poor and marginalized in drought prone and disaster affected areas, through drilling tube wells and repairing old tube wells.
SWS was established in 1967. SWS drilled wells in Maharashtra when there was a severe drought. It began as a project encouraged by MCCS to drill 1000 wells in India for the needy, poor and the marginalized people.
SWS is pioneer in the research & development of hand pumps. ISI MARK II, a hand pump model was given to the UNICEF without any royalty to be used for the poor and the marginalized in other countries. Today it is well recognized and used all over the world.
